And about time too! However one can't help wondering what the repercussions will be. It is hard to believe the Government of Pakistan didn't know he was holed up in a fortified compound not that far from the capitol

hmmm... i was a bit interested to hear stuff on the radio today on this..

like how come US special forces shot him then buried him at sea.. is this part of international frameworks? i mean if they just chucked him in the sea then how can folks be absolutely sure that it was him?

is this something to do with US elections or stuff?

They took custody of the body after killing him so they'll have made sure it was definitely him!! But they afforded him a Muslim funeral which, to my knowledge, has to happen within a small time span of death!

I don't see why so many people (and I've heard it from quite a few!) have a problem with him having been disposed of at sea - or so quickly!! He's dead!! That's all that matters!! Now the world just needs to brace itself for the retaliation!!

The burial at sea seems to be a good idea as it ensures his grave wouldn't become a shrine. A good precept to follow when other notorious people of his ilk are dispatched.

Yes, that was exactly what I thought!! His grave would have been a shrine and he'd have become even more of a hero!

Does this make the world a safer place?  I wouldn't be surprised if there are reprisals.  Would it have been better for the Americans to have kept quiet about his death and acted as if they hadn't realised that they'd killed him?  I expect that any remaining senior Al-Quaeda leaders wouldn't have wanted to advertise the fact that Bin Laden had been killed and so reprisals wouldn't have featured in their thinking.

I also wonder whether they could have taken him alive. I expect they could and if they could then why didn't they? It would have been interesting, if he had been brought to trial, to find out whether he really was responsible.  As others have said I don't trust the Americans.  There are still people imprisoned in Guantanamo, they've been there fr 9 years without trial, and they can't be tried because the evidence of torture by the Americans is too great.

Obama has much more to lose in being found out in a lie - but don't think the conspiracy theorists have thought of that....
No, this doesn't make the world a safer place - just that Al Qaeda have lost their figure head - there are and were always going to be, plenty willing to step into his shoes, but I think it was important for Bin Laden to have been got....I also think it's a GOOD thing that he wasn't taken alive...yes there will be reprisals for his death...but further attacks are being planned all the time, all this does is give them what they'll see as "justification"...! If he'd been taken alive there would have been attacks to try and force his release....either way - dead or alive, there will always be more attacks!

1) A trial for him would have been more dangerous - more chance of his minions carrying out attacks trying to force his release.
2) For the likes of him, it's the only type of 'justice' he'd understand!!
3) He lost no sleep over the murder of thousands over the years.....the world's now a better place because he's dead...sounds like 'justice' to me! But ask anyone who lost someone on 9/11 or any of the other attacks he planned/ordered and see if they see it as 'justice'!?

So a person is guilty if they don't deny something.  Man, you learn something new every day, here was me thinking that you actually had to be found guilty in a court of law, but no, it's enough that you don't deny the accusations made against you.

Same with those in Guantanamo I suppose, they didn't deny, or if they did they were waterboarded, deprived of sleep, punched and kicked until they didn't deny.  Fine, upstanding people like yourselves talk about 'justice', and due process is kicked into touch, it's just the lynch mob baying for blood.
