The Archbishop of Canterbury said the killing of Osama bin Laden while he was not armed has left him with "a very uncomfortable feeling".

Bin Laden was shot dead in his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, and it later emerged he was unarmed when US commandos fired at him.

Speaking in response to a question at a press briefing, Dr Rowan Williams said: "I think the killing of an unarmed man is always going to leave a very uncomfortable feeling because it doesn't look as if justice is seen to be done.

Unarmed? Well to me having loyal goons on your roof doing the shooting for you means you are armed. One doesn't need to be pulling the trigger to be armed.
Terrorists usually have to face trial? No they don't. They usually die in a shoot out.
This is starting to get creepy. I'm getting the feeling there's some closet Osama sympathizers here abouts. Yikes! I wonder if you all cried out when the former Pres. of Romania and his wife were given a five minute trial and then taken outside and shot? You know I got a bit queezy watching video of it but I felt it was right to execute those two. I had to remember that they were responible for the execution of thousands of innocent Romanians.
If one lives by the sword it's only fitting that you die by it.

I think we have a different understanding of what it means  for an individual to be 'armed'. It has been reported that he was unarmed.

Ah - Do they really? Perhaps some do if they are resisting or firing back - but generally I think you will find that they do have to face trial if they are arrested.

hmmm was in an IT cafe last night surrounded by folks from the middle east so i kinda avoided this line..

reading from page 5 sounds like things is pretty lively...

powow it's great to have someone giving a cross the pond perspective... seems like one either stands shoulder to shoulder or one is the enemy.... well that's a pretty neat way of looking at things but i like for the US that folks can think for themselves even if periodically through US history it's landed them in realy hot water (so much for freedom of speech or freedom of thoughts) ... the US is a country that retains the death sentence..... (though not in all states) and so believes in an eye for an eye ..... i am pretty proud that in our country we have done away with capital punishment and that now for about 50 years or so ... so that is our political and legal culture... that most of us have known little else for....  which does not suit everyone or necessarily all for all circumstances ....  but some of us feel this somehow resonates better with a sense of Peace a Peace of Christ ... i don't make any apology for sharing that sort of sentiment somehow

I can't buy into the conspiracy theory considering one of Obama's first orders on becoming Pres. was find him and kill him. So that order was given over 2yrs. ago. Just not believable that over the past couple years Obama has told his people to wait, not yet, there's no political advantage for me yet. LOL! Was the plot to kill Hitler some sort of international crime? Of course not.

ermmm they've been saying on the beeb radio that bl's whereabouts in that location has been known since August of last year ... and ther was some suggestion that he'd been tracjked someone said for the last was it seven years or something.....    hmmm one wonders what political advantage might be gained by not dealing with the issue quickly .... why wait ... well there is some suiggestion that the royal wedding has something to do with it ... and perhaps even the UK 'midterm' elections and AV voting? nice red herring stuff to take our media's attention away from what is relevant day to day in the UK....


thje point is that it's one thing to have years of surveillance in order to gather sufficient evidence to bring someone to trial (though to me that is complete incompetence and what about all the victims along the way? so they get any compensation!?) but if all that is required is a an action of 'take out' then surely the sooner the better? something stinks here big time...

i doubt there was no political expedience in the timing ... i am also amazed that the good folks as spokespersons cannot seem to get theri story straight ... so never mind the absence of evidence like a body.... like the video footage ... i don't trust our lot and i don't trust your lot over the pond everyone is trying to cover their cracks and smile to camera

when the christian theologian and pacifist attempted to assasinate hitler oh dear GOD was having none of that! though a number of other folks got killed and bonhoeffer was sent to jail and executed before armistice

I wonder if those who think Bin Laden should have had mercy would have felt so kindly disposed towards him if one of their rellies had been killed on 9/11?

i think the 3 000 who died then pales into insignificance against the casualties of non combatants in Afghanistan and Iraq ... even the figures of 13 or 30 000 non combattants measured by the Pakistani gov as folks murdered by the bl blokes is pretty incredible ... me i gets offended that some folks lives count for value whilst other apparently not!

Indeed, and I find it offensive that some mass murderers are deemed to be criminals who deserve death without a trial while other mass murderers are deemed to be respected politicians who will never face a trial.

I would never consider you an enemy. I hope you would never view me as one.
You know we have been with you in every war since our confederation and before. You had our total and absolute support when you killed Argentinians to regain a few wind swept bunch of rocks in the south Atlantic. We were bombing Iraq together during the first gulf war. We died and killed Japanese right along beside you when we were trying to defend Hong Kong etc, etc. War unfortunately has to be fought and won and the only way to do this is to kill and bring the enemy to it's knees. Canada, the US and yes the UK is in a war, a long war. Blood will be shed and lots of it. Do I wish it? Absolutely not, but I'm no fool. Nice talk and best wishes is weakness to our enemy. Sadly there is no one converting these terrorists with your pacifist message. My aunt (my adopted family) told me about how my  great grandfather and his brothers would remain awake all night with loaded rifles right after the American civil war. The Irish finians wanted to liberate us fron the grips of the evil UK. We weren't going to go for that. We shot some and then the US government made those goons go back to their homes.

I think Obama is right not to release the picture of him, as it is likely to lead to more trouble. Besides which what does a picture prove for heaven's sake? Those who just love conspiracy theories would claim it was faked anyway. I hear the horrible Sarah Palin wanted it released, she would! God help us if she ever became president, Bin Laden would look like a pussycat compared with her!

The response is simple, how would you feel if someone decided a relative of yours had done something wrong and they came over and shot them, without trial?
