Good for him, I would be very proud if he was my son. :)

My daughter toyed with the idea of going to that school to do an International Baccalaureate instead of  A levels.

if in a skirt he feels more comfortable .....

wearing a skirt is probably more 'healthy' for males anyway. Nobody mocks the Scots men for their wearing of kilts.

he certainly has some balls - and is not scared of showing this!
I say - good for him!
(Actually Jan - quite a few of us do quietly laugh at Scots in kilts...)

Probably because they are rather jealous of how good their legs look in a skirt  w:

(my grandmother is a Scot - so I guess part of me is too - so watch it  /.\   )

VERY brave man Andrew!!! And I agree with Jan - jealousy is a terrible thing....and it's not every man who can carry off a kilt - that takes a REAL man!! Some men look utterly ridiculous - and should have a mirror check and some look amazing! Nothing better than a wedding with all the men in kilts - assuming they suit them....

And contrary to popular southern belief - it's not everyday attire......!!!!

ps - Jan - where does your Grandmother hail from?

Ah right! My cousin and her hubby live just outside Dalry! They've converted a massive barn, one side the house and the other a stable for their 2 horses....!

As for the boy wearing the skirt to school.....saw it covered on HIGNFY and I have to say that I agreed more with the comments on that that on here....yes, the boy is standing up for a principle which is great but as Paul Merton put it....."How did it feel wearing a skirt? Well, it was an interesting prelude to being beaten up"!!!!  Maybe I know that that's exactly what would happen to that kid around here - but I honestly can't imagine many places would realistically be different! Of course the media are saying oh "the whole school backs his protest" etc.....but does everyone REALLY think that he won't get a hard time because of this????

Well I saw that too, and could sort of see that the boy was quite strong in his behaviour in supporting his principle.  Not the sort of behaviour that could be bullied really - there was something quite interesting about the strength of his character.

My Scots son-in-law has a grey kilt, which he has worn from time to time, instead of his usual tartan one. I did suggest it might not be the wisest thing to do to pick up his lads from school when wearing it, in case they were teased.

Skirt/kilt......2 completely different things....cannot be compared!! Why on earth would anyone slag off a kilt?? Other than ignorance!
Personally I prefer the proper kilts (tartan) as opposed to the self coloured ones (mostly black or grey) that people tend to see as fashionable - but that's what they are....not traditional kilts!

to be honest, to me, its strange whether a male wears a skirt or a kilt as a form of clothing - as nobody 'bats an eyelid' these days if a female wears jeans/trousers (when at one time it would have been a no no). It is just clothing really. I know the lad was trying to make a point (and a fair one at that) - but then again should he really have to? Why does our clothing really matter? (says she who likes 'per una'  )):  )
