Melvyn Bragg on the King James Bible
« on: April 27, 2011, 09:17:35 »
As we celebrate the 400th anniversary of an official, widely-available English language version of the Bible, Melvyn Bragg - on this morning's BBC Breakfast (0905-0915) - has written a book called 'The Book of Books' and points out the foundational nature of the Bible to much of most Western society.  It is interesting that he highlights the role of the Bible in the abolition of slavery, the slaves' own liberation movement, the liberation of women, and even the very questioning of the existence of God - as so dramatically espoused by Richard Dawkins.
