Pointless mail
« on: April 14, 2011, 13:08:42 »
Have just had a letter from HMR&C informing me and my wife that they will not be renewing our claim for tax credits from April 2011.  This will be really disappointing, as we have both enjoyed writing to them over the past 5 or 6 years reminding them that Kay earns far above the limit, and that we haven't had any money from them for nearer 8 years anyway!!

Perhaps this move will mean that we will no longer receive long letters - one each, at that - telling us that we are not eligible for such credits!!

Mind you, another couple of years, and it'll be letters about state pensions that will land on the doormat!!

If every government department stopped sending out tens of millions useless letters each year, we'd save a hell of a lot of hard cash in these tight times.

It rarely surprises me that our government is bogged down in unnecessary bureaucratic procedures that we, the taxpayer, have to foot the bill for!

Utterly ridiculous waste of resources!  :m:

We received a 'customer feedback survey' from the Lancashire Family Information Service - to our home address but in the name of someone else (a woman). Hubby contacted them to let them know that they either have the wrong address for the person, or someone is using our address when they shouldn't be. Anyway - the matter was supposed to have been dealt with (or so we thought). Then we received the same survey again - this time addressed to my hubby (with same case ref no as for the mystery woman). I am starting to wonder if there is something he is not telling me (lol) - though seriously - it looks like his call to them was a complete waste of time. Obviously  they really payed attention to his call didn't they ....

Yes, we got those as well Andy.. - and have (like you) been getting letters over the years saying that our income is to high to get any payment...
The joke is that, despite being told numerous times that No3child is now no longer at school they kept on paying us money (~?250 in total) which they said in their last letter they would recover by reducing future payments! What payments, one wonders???
Jan, at least they have now got the name right - and after only one exchange. I would say that this represents quite a success!

You don't want any letters about pensions!  I have a state pension plus three others from jobs I've held, so the tax has to be taken off one of the occupational pensions.  The Darlington pension is dealt with by a tax office in Wales, the Surrey one by an office in Scotland, and the Berkshire one by an office in Kent.  Cue the annual routine of making sure that we don't have a situation where each tax office thinks the tax allowance has been applied to the one of the other two pensions, so they should take a full 20%.

And, of course, each change generates two letters from HMRC.

So enjoy retirement, Andy - you'll spend all your time sortig out tax problems.

Much though I'd like to retire, and sometimes feel as if I already was, I've another 11 years to go.  Whether I'll ever have another job between now and then remains to be seen though!!

Just had a (spam) email purporting to be from the FBI, claiming that they have logged my ISP address on 40 illegal sites.  Whilst I suppose my daughter might possibly have been visiting them, the fact that the message ends

seems to defeat the initial impact!!

I suppose that they could be referring to www.faithspace.smfnew.com though, as one of the sites!!

lol - they are so funny. Do they really expect anyone to take 'em seriously I wonder?

By the way, I have been informed (via email and by various strange looking email addresses) that I could be the April winner of the Optimax laser eye surgery  )): ... they are really trying to contact me - but I am being coy. I keep blocking them, but they just send the email out again via a different strange address.
