iconic moments 9/11
« on: September 07, 2011, 19:43:42 »
like it or not it#s the 10th  anniversary of 9-11

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/photographer-behind-haunting--falling-man--image-retraces-steps.html

so we gonna hve a fest of reminiscences .. whatever media you like

yesterday was listening to some build up on the radio listening to one of those voices what didnt get heard about //// isnt this enough deaths for one lifetime /stead of going off and creating some more .. i was moved by the factual calm of the woman comparing the 3000 odd twin towers causualties including the actual suicide bombers with the 100 000 of folks mostly women and children she added quietly as she remembered herself being moved by one of the berived who at the time was very calm and clear that enough was enough...

10 years on well what do you think?

where were you when you heard the news?  i was at home listening to the radio it was pm and it was shocking to the newsfolk as it was as events unfolded..

is the world a better place?  a safer place?

wjhat needs to be resolved still?

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,

No

... a safer place?
Probably little more or less dangerous than before

Exactly the same as needed resolving before 9/11.  We are barely any further on, and I'm not sure we've learnt any lessons from the events
Growing old is compulsory. Growing up is optional.

Have you visited the Garw Valley Railway yet?

10 yrs - doesn't seem so does it? Hubby & I were in Minorca on hols. Saw what happened on the hotel televisions in the lounge - everyone all standing round - mesmerized and completely in shock.

To me the world does not seem to be a better place right now. Does not seem safe either.

That starting wars does not help for starters! The only way to resolve this is understanding between religions and nations, and not treating all people of a given culture as 'the enemy'. You can't win a 'war on terror' by shooting people but only by winning their 'hearts & minds'. If Israel and Palestine could be sorted out it would go a long way. We should not be propping up dictators. We should not be in the Arms Trade.
I could go on but that will do to begin with, now discuss!

yeah thanks Andrew dunno what happened to AndyHB who forgot to answer his own question...

there's a very interesting talk on the R4 Reithh lectures... last sat was the former head of MI5/6? whatever... when you listen to her talk it's a wonder there are any wars .... but there are..

the bit that is sticking in my mind at the minute is the 'war on terror'... it's not cos of its weight of political propaganda but i recollect early post 9/11 a sudden shift in Bush's demeanour... a reading of the papers at the time revealed a story line that said he had had a reliegious experience... the trouble is that what GOD said and what he did next kindov feel to be two kettle of fish... you see 'war on terror' for me began at home ie reviewing the US role past and present with humility unfortunately war meant something fought on foreign soil to the C2o americn  all that happened was a rewriting of the definition in the dictionary of the word 'terror'... like i say listening to that Reith lecture one wonders how wars were ever fought... it's easy in hindsight... but then...

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,

Eliza Manningham-Buller (if I have spelt her name right!) was head of MI5 - as you say, very good talks, but I don't quite see where you get the impression from that no wars would be fought if the govt had listened to her...

no what i meant was the attitude portrayed in the talk was one of co-operation and jaw jawing .....  so if that were to be the culture of those departments then it makes little sense to have them as advisors if their advice is not followed... something like this...

i guess that though she spoke really well and came across as reasonable that could be a sort of facade... folks at the top seem to have a real gift for cultivating the thoroughly plausible...... persona

GOD BLESS!
