Teething problems? Or just me?
« on: April 01, 2011, 22:52:17 »
Quite like the new forum format - except for the fact that my posts keep disappearing. According to my profile, I've only posted 4 comments! Em, no,  but that's all that's showing because some have vanished! Also, why do we have to enter digitalised letters every time we want to post (as seems to be the case!)?

It becomes pointless to post if it's made so difficult - and if comments posted get deleted -  I for one will give up.....

Hi Eli

Sorry to here about the problems you've been having.
have you always logged into the forum to post messages? I think guests were allowed to post at the start.

The capture image security thing should only effect guests if they choose to search the forum ect, this is to stop spammers.

I'll look at the settings again. and try to find your missing posts.

anyone else having similar problems?

Hi Mclarkie,
Thanks for that - I'm definitely logged in but still need to decipher the letters to enable me to submit a post.

cheers!

I have a problem when I am typing out a post. It is a bit difficult to describe.
When I reach the botton of the posting window, the window shoots up to about half way and I can't see what I'm typing. As I type the window bobs up and down. I can only see what I have typed by stopping typing and scrolling down. The minute I start to type again the window shoots back up to half way again.
It is weired and very frustrating.
I have the problem on another discussion board and have been told it is a script conflict between the later versions of Outlook Express and some discussion boards.
Any suggestions?

Saundthorp - I too used to have that problem, on Anglican Mainstream and on a predecessor to this forum.  In both cases, I mentioned in on a thread like this and within a few days it had gone - so whether it something that can be fixed from the Admin. end, I have no idea.

Dose it still do it :?:

If not, click the toggle view button..see if that dose anything (clutching at straws  mind )(:)  last button with the arrow.

Ha harr... I have just logged in to the forum using IE and can now see what is happening to you guys, very annoying indeed!!!

My work-around above (clicking the arrow button) appears to stop the page scrolling up and down erratically.

Another suggestion would be to stretch the typing window area by clicking on that thumb slider thing..centre bottom and dragging to resize the typing window.

This is a known problem caused by a bug in IE8 that affects a lot of forum software (not just SMF).

Try this:

In IE8 at the top to the right of the address bar you'll see an icon of a torn in half piece of paper. Click on that which will turn on compatability mode (makes IE8 behave like IE7) and it should solve the issue.

Or use a decent browser like Firefox or Chrome.  )):
It's not just what you're given, it's what you do with what you've got.

Same issue for me, too.
