Morrissey of celeb quote fame
« on: July 29, 2011, 17:07:55 »
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/jul/28/morrissey-norway-attacks-mcdonalds-kfc

reading the article... i quite warmed to Morrissey who i now know is formerly of the Smiths outspoken and at times clumsy as he is....  without let it BE SAID being any sort of apologist for his remarks regarding Norway....  i didn't even recognise the guy's face ! and the Smiths passed me by

he certainly seems to feel strongly about a topicseems he was introducing a song: "We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead. Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald's and Kentucky Fried S*** every day." The Mirror reports that Morrissey compared the massacre in Norway, where 76 people died, to the slaughter of animals for fast food chains, while introducing The Smiths song Meat Is Murder at a gig in Warsaw."  quoted from MSN uk site who if i'm not mistaken have re-presented their text omitting comments that agreed that the slaughter of animals for ffcs was pretty abusive.... but  aND SO ON ...  something like that .... may have been someones personal comments the site is so slow!

anyway are folks offended...? do folks think that the plight of farm animals for food is underrepresented in discussion by the media..? are extreme acts of tastelessness and other forms of direct action ever justified?

is the deliberate act of killing of flesh murder regardless of what species

should he apologise for any misperception or offense he might have caused?

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,

I love The Smiths and Morrissey and I also love  animals (although I'm not a vegetarian!) but yes, I do think Mozzer has gone too far with this comment!
Yes, he's known for being outspoken but whilst he's entitled to his opinion - he should really think first about what he's saying!

I was a vegetarian when the Smiths were still about, and would say that for those of us to who the deaths of animals matter the issue is forgotten about by those who choose to eat meat. he has clumsily mucked up by getting the two issues mixed up, and typically the fuss won't bring a focus onto factory farming, but will just make his voice more alien, and less likely to be heard.

I've never found it useful to do the standing up and protestinmg, but to engage in discussion with people who choose to discuss it, even though this is usually meat eaters on the agressive.
One God - enough for me

I like the Smiths music - grew up with it in the 80's.

I care about animals but I am not a vegetarian (like many of us)

I think making such an analogy or comparison between the murders of innocent people by a very disturbed person and the meat industry is going too far - I  actually find this to be rather disrespectful (IMO) to those who have suffered loss and stress in the Norwegian attacks.
'Amor Vincit Omnia' ?
