East Coast railway franchise terminated
« on: July 09, 2011, 16:31:41 »
dunno what coverage this story is gonna get....   a quintessentially driven by britain in the modern era story...

that criticises both previous and current administrations for their respective roles in the setting up of the east coast franchise and the termination of the east coast franchise... i have to say that my reading of the bbc's page it is not clear what is going on or what the future is ... is the govt unfit to run a franchise system more so or less so than a nationalised system?

but is this one example a route to rail nationalisation?  more cost to the taxpayer with little return or a sensible cost-effective way to cost-effective rail management....  maybe some of us don't see the railways as remotely useful and it certainly is more convenient in some parts or journeys than others... is though our railways in crisis? could we manage without railways?  say make the railways carry more freight have less long haul lorry journeys and less passengers and let passngers make their own journeys...? what about fuel prices and car and vehicle costs?

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,

Tory privatisation never really seemed to work, and of course renationalisation would be expensive, but it should never have been shattered in the way it was.

I'm happy to travel anywhere in west yorkshire by train, but if we cross the county line there are problems
One God - enough for me

There is a reason for that Ecu - the line is so heavily used that a train blocking it or in the wrong place means that others can't get where they need to until that one is got out of the way - and then they are not in the right place for the next bit of their work.

Bless you! i think i had just about understood that much about trains that they can't just move over to the hard shoulder and everyone overtake them..  it is a potential weakness in design for a transport system transporting masses of people from Ato B

GOD BLESS!

It is a potential weakness in any system which is 'tramlined' - whether literally or metaphorically - but the railways try to get round it with sidings every so often.
