one of the themes that has been somehow sidelined in all the fiasco over NOW is the politics

like why should BskyB ... what difference does it make... to the logic and legitimacy of the original coalition decision to grant the sale's go-ahead

one of the queries that came up in the live radio chats ... was why close the paper in the first place rather than simply sack all those responsible and carry on new management... like why keep R Brooks and sacrifice the paper? one journalist said that she is embedded in the Murdoch family through friendship and kinship through marriage and so in effect family loyalties were being prioritised

it's been interesting though to listen to comments about the relationships between big media moguls of tabloid empires and leading politicians... one older hack reminisced about the cosying up of Robert Maxwell and John Smith... so is Murcky Murdoch and Cameron any worse....?  (can one actually create a gradation of good to bad)  are media moguls with their capacity to influence folks on things they quite frankly know little about people to thus be treated with kidgloves and pandered to .....   is for instance the BskyB deal one such aspect of sweetener effect ....  one commentator has pointed out that it  the media (print but not just) are generally quite rightwing and suggested that they were more rightwing than the british public and do not represent the views of the public.. they cited the example of the last election where if the media was representative of public opinion (and add in public values ) then Cameron would have got in....   the fact he did not showed a the disparity between media and public opinion.... so if the media is not representing the people why should the politicians pander to the media to such a degree?

what is becoming exposed as murkier and murkier is Cameron's relationship with Coulson... while the ghastly Alistair Campbell was nothing to write home about he doesn't come with the baggage of the slur of resignation over phone hacking (does this make a difference though?) that is alleged to have caused Coulson to resign before suddenly being taken into the privvy of the tory party and then number 10 for me i guess that this relationship already was barbed ... and it queries for me Cameron's judgement as to what is and is not appropriate at the public institution of number 10 .... me i was certainly sceptical about all this media conscious stuff in the TBGB eras.... while politicians surely should hold a natural flair for publicity for me the now relationships that Cameron is struggling with are more worryng...

so then....  what do we expect our politicians to do... and what they do in terms of who they have around them ... is that relevant... or should we let them get on with it?  what sort of standards should we expect?  obviously i don't expect politicians to have no contact with powerful people but where does the line get drawn... i mean when do politicians cease to be our representatives and become those fit for media moguls?

if we have any opinions then where should our attentions be best placed to be focused?

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,
