I notice that Murdoch and Murdoch Jr have now agreed to attend the Select Committee meeting on Tuesday, saying that they want to 'absolutely establish their integrity'.  Is this possible when they initially refused the ordinary invitation, and had to be summonsed!!

I heard the other day that although the Murdochs could be summoned they couldn't be compelled to give evidence as they are not British citizens, unlike Brooks, who has now resigned.

I wonder if the Murdochs might be forced to resign from News International to save the company from going under?

Not for nothing did Private Eye nickname him the 'dirty digger' some years ago...
Yes, I believe they could be compelled to attend IF they remained in the country - and could be arrested in future if they fled for Contempt of Parliament so they would have to either attend or forever stay out of GB - though how much use their attendance will be is anyone's guess - I reckon they will just say 'No Comment' to most questions on the basis that it is 'sub judice'.

Yes, there was mention made the other day that the Sergeant-At-Arms of the commons could be actually sent to fetch him.  I think he is realising now that throwing money and making threats won't do much good as people will take greater pleasure in making him squirm

does that mean that inquirys parliamentary and public .... get dealt with after all legal situations are sorted?

i heard some stuff on the radio about ... the point of public enquiry was to get to the truth that was beyond what a legal proceedings would be about focusing on a narrow margin of the law and enabling defendents and others to refuse to give evidence somehting like that... it was further suggested that parliamentary enquirys in this country were ill equipped to deal with the folks they were to call before them in contrast to the US who have invested staff and resources to make sure that the truth is revealed.. well that's what they said... shame we don't have these traditions but we have been pretty slow in getting freedom of information protocols to the fore... seem to recall that well it's taken the labour party 80? years while the tories after 400 + years haven't begun!  hmm

He was, according to police, known to have alcohol- and drug-related health problems; and I would suspect that the issue has gone so far as to make his allegations (shown to be right already) not a make or break element of any case.  That said, any unexplained death has to be examined carefully.

Re: yesterday's appearance by the 2 Murdochs.  Whoever 'gave' RM the shaving cream pie has probably helped their cause, rather than hindered it - I wonder if he was a NI/NC employee instructed to do this in order to encourage sympathy for RM  )):

Can Murdoch's claim that he had no knowledge of the matter really be believed in view of the fact that a major court case took place back in the mid-noughties, which he must have at least have been briefed on by those responsible for News International?

Now the whistleblower Sean Hoare is found dead in his home.

http://www.tntmagazine.com/tnt-today/archive/2011/07/19/news-of-the-world-journalist-sean-hoare-found-dead.aspx

That event has been given surprisingly little coverage!
