This place

Don't know about anyone else, but I am finding myself getting increasingly frustrated with this place from a technological point of view.  Regularly, I find that the site takes a very long time to open - initially, to write a new message or start a new thread, or when posting.  I also find that it still pops the 'Too many posts; try again another time' message up quite regularly, and I often get the minimalistic layout, without any of the skin.

I am using Firefox, and with the recently published upgrade to Firefox 5.0 I have noticed that a number of sites haven't caught up with the changes (not to mention some of Firefox's own add-ons!!).  However, the problems I have predate the Firefox update.

Even the old site wasn't as unresponsive as this except for those occasions it went down completely.

If we really want to get people to sign up in order to grow the community, we need to have a better platform or a better grasp of this one.

If that's the case, why did I have to click on this thread 3 times in the past 5 minutes to get anything to appear?

I have been using the 'Icecube' look, so have reverted to the default look, and will see if that makes any difference.

(Seems to sped things up already!!

It's giving problems that are nothing to do with the theme or the browser.  They've been fiddling at night a bit recently - I was getting the Apache page last night, so I expect that they are aware of the problems and are trying to improve things.
It's not just what you're given, it's what you do with what you've got.

Interestingly, Martin, I changed the theme yesterday and everything started to behave perfectly from that point.  I have also been having similar problems on another smf website so changed the theme back to the default - and no problems since (so far).

I don't have the slowness that some people appear to have, there has been some server related problems, causing the forum to go down.
hopefully they have now solved this problem, for the time being anyhow.

Anyone having a problem with the formatting? ie, everything is in wide wide landscape type format and not within the normal screen size.
Does anyone know how to fix this (or is it something I'm doing/not doing?) Never had the problem before, with either site!

But it seems to be the default theme that has the problem of no right-hand edge when writing a message - so it simply goes[ on and on and on into the distance without one being able to see it!!]

(The section in square brackets above is 'off-screen' for me!!)
