Northern Rock sale

It seems that the Chancellor is set to sell Northern Rock.  What do folk think of this?  Is it too early?  Has the fact that RSB and Lloyds have announced that they are to sell some 600 branches between them encouraged the Chancellor to help establish a 5th 'big' retail bank?

I think it probably is a bit early, but his hand may well have been forced by the Lloyds & RBS sell-off.
