Petrol prices
« on: May 25, 2011, 18:40:57 »
I notice that Asda has begun a price war by offering it at 132.7p a litre here in Cardiff, against its competitors' 132.9p.  Is this the first time petrol has been priced at other than ***.9p in people's experience?  Could we see the price change by decimals of a penny now, rather than by the traditional multiple of pennies?

fractions of pennies obviously make a difference - enough to encourage sales against 'the competition'.

We noticed quite a difference in fuel prices between Lancs & Durham fairly recently. Durham area being cheaper for petrol.

As with Boudi, I also have seen numerous .x's in the past - but more commonly WRT LPG prices recently. I wonder whether it's re-emergence is more to do with the change in VAT?

Definitely always seem .x in petrol prices.....but not quite the range in whole pennies! Right now it's averaging  4-5p a litre more expensive to buy petrol in Glasgow than it was last week down in Hampshire (which I got to by train which was cheaper than driving!!)

they wuz just talking about petrol prices on the radio... that the fluctuations of the price of crude oil just does not resemble the price at the pump.. obviously this affects the likes of me indirdectly ... but i don't drive so don't worry about the kind of thing described above.. however there does seem to be a problem at large especially as the price at the pump is not exactly reflecting the price of crude oil.... but should it?

GOD BLESS!

The petrol companies will say that their charges are a reflection of the price at which they bought the oil which has since been refined and is now in the pumps - i e that there is a lag between the price of crude falling and that of petrol falling. The funny thing is that I have not noticed a huge lag between the price of crude rising and that of the petrol rising....
