Spains Stolen Babies
« on: October 20, 2011, 22:28:00 »

Heard about this on the radio at the weekend, and for me the most shocking thing seems to be the involvement of the church.  I can't believe that parents have been told their babies have died just so that they can sell their babies to 'more deserving' parents.  Whatever the reasons for taking a baby from one set of parents and giving it to another, could such behaviour ever be justified?

Sad and misguided.  I wonder what current stupidity will be looked back on in years to come.

The overwhelming reliance on paperwork and qualifications?

Well, yes, it seems to have started with Franco, but even then, the church had it's involvement, and whereas it seems to have started out politically, it's then carried on,
by the church, and done for 'moral' reasons.   And of course it's not really a past issue since it continued into the 90s!

Boudi, just how much that the church has done over the centuries has been for 'political' as opposed to 'theological' reasons?  Sadly, far too much, from Crusades and Inquisitions to this kind of thing.  When an organisation like the church is a 'state' organisation, dictatorships have massive influence over what happens.  I agree that this type of thing oughtn't to happen, but when appointments of Bishops, priests, Archbishops - even Popes - become as much political issues as anything else, the issue of human frailty and weakness in the face of such pressure will always raise its ugly head.

the did the same with the Aborigines in Australia for a generation or so, before realising that it would not work. At least THEY stopped half a century ago. You would think that the lesson might have been learned in other countries....
