Dear Lord ....
« on: April 08, 2011, 16:17:26 »
Dear Lord,

Help me to relax about insignificant details, beginning tomorrow at 7:41:23 a.m. EST.

Help me to consider people's feelings, even if most of them are hypersensitive.

Help me to take responsibility for the consequences of my actions, even though they're usually not my fault.

Help me to not try to run everything - but, if you need some help, please feel free to ask me.

Help me to be more laid back, and help me to do it exactly right.

Help me to take things more seriously, especially laughter, parties, and dancing.

Give me patience, and I mean right now!

Help me not be a perfectionist. (Did I spell that correctly?)

Help me to finish everything I sta

Help me to keep my mind on one thing ... oh, look, a bird ... at a time.

Help me to do only what I can, and trust you for the rest. And would you mind putting that in writing?

Keep me open to others' ideas, misguided though they may be.

Help me follow established procedures. Hey, wait ... this is wrong ...

Help me slow down andnotrushthroughwhatido.

Thank you, Lord.

Amen

(well seeing as nobody has added any prayer requests as yet - I thought this would be a good place to start  )):  )

A joke 'prayer' would be better placed in another section! It is NOT appropriate in this one that is for sure! I might not think the deity answers prayers, but many do, and taking the proverbial in that way is just not on, in my opinion!

Oh Dear Rm - well I guess it can be moved, but I believe that God has a sense of humour (even if some of His/Her creation do not)  ;) - lighten up love eh - it is a forum

We're not going to have this what is prayer discussion again are we?

Prayer is whatever you want it to be.  Joy, fun and self deprecation included.

Last time I prayed about a lost item that was very important for someone else and I'd been rushing around turning the office upside down - I stopped and asked for help - and in a sudden moment of calm walked directly to the right drawer.  I laughed out loud at my 'God'.

I think it is fine to pray for more humour esp at the start of a prayer forum on a forum shared by people of completely opposing views and opinions - lawd knows it is often needed (as is quite evident here on this thread  ;) ).

Now if someone starts a prayer thread asking for prayers of well, say a more 'serious' nature - well then I will respond accordingly in my usual way - you know - with complete lack of care, compassion and sensitivity  w:

I don't think it's a joke, even if it is funny.   :)

Parts of the prayer,  you could argue, are quite prophetic. )):

Have just read it through, and was struck by two things: (i) how similar some of was to simple child prayers and (ii) how similar other parts of it was to apparently serious prayers that are so clearly simply a means of puffing the prayer's self-esteem - not unlike some of the Pharisaical prayers in the Gospels!!

By all means add more stuff  :) and yeah God (and Spirit) knows where stuff is too

well I guess it is apt since we are all Gods children

Yes it does make you think - but mainly to help us reflect on our relationship with each other and with God - you know - God being there (somewhere) within each of us - but to still do that with a bit of humour

I have no problem with the prayer - I think that we only need to look around us to know see that God DOES indeed have a sense of humour!

In fact I think these are all (or at least mostly) examples of a "typical attitude in prayer" for the various Myers-Briggs Personality Types.
But yes, Eli , clearly He does - where else would we get it from apart from anything else! You only have to look at the duck-billed platypus to know that He has a sense of humour.... and then the story of the centurion who claimed that if he said to a man come he would come and to another go and he would go - to which Jesus said he had never seen such faith in Israel!
