Amy Winehouse RIP
« on: July 25, 2011, 18:40:04 »
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_Club  by it's own admission not a reliable or complete document... if anything demonstrates the rather curious notion of anything significant to be gained by grouping anything by numbers....   the list of big or recognisable names is a little short...?

am currently listening to youtube version of her music ...

she is held in extremely high esteem though she has passed me by rather... she was more known to me as someone who was in the news rather a tragic amount....  she's talented but... so are many other of her contemporary singers as singers... as a songstress well some hold her high..

what do folks think?

it is rather a shock and very sad

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,

Very sad and a loss to music but probably not surprising for someone so addicted.

I suppose 27 is the average age for the disease to cause death.  Addicted from the start of stardom and the body gives out after 7 or 8 years?

Also sad at the loss - enjoyed many of her songs on the radio- talented lady. Sad for her friends & family.

Sad at the negative comments because none of us knows what it was like 'in her shoes'. Trying to appreciate the wisdom in the saying "Never judge a man until you have walked a mile in his moccasins."
'Amor Vincit Omnia' ?

I very much agree Jan. None of us know what took her down the path of addiction and far too many people are quick to judge and take the so-called moral highground, which nobody can really inhabit!
Just a real waste of a life and a great talent! Liked some of her stuff although not personally a great fan of Jazz - however I can still tell that she was talented in that genre.
Thoughts with her family and friends....the people who DID know her!!

well all we know is that no-one succeeded in stopping her if that was what was required so that gives absolutely no-one the freedom of success of high morals...

jj are you saying that 7-8 years is the average add on life expectancy from onset of addiction?

GOD BLESS!

I was wondering and asking really. Hence the ?

Constant drug taking/drinking/bulimia etc. takes its toll and there might well be an average for people who have the money and opportunity to do it in a certain way i.e. not having to sober up for a 9 - 5 job, say. Also there is some discussion about whether people who try to dry out on their own too fast and without medical help and supervision can die from shock.  It happened to a friend of mine.

thanks jj

the history of modern music is littered with drugs associated lives of short span..

it has been said that some of the deaths in custody of arrested folks who are persistent drug users are caused by ... in a sense 'shock' as the genreal condition of their bodies is just poor...  it makes sense if drugs(+ or alcohol) are more important than food and have a significant metabolic impact as well as appetite surpression etc... so the body is in a sense constantly playing catchup on repairing itself......   still i was a little disappointed they seemed to be in a rush to release her body.. though i guess her family weren't looking for anyone immediate to blame... just kind of accepting with sadness a loss of a very loved one

sorry about the one you knew

GOD BLESS!

it looks like the rush was that the family are culturally Jewish, and therefore a quick burial is usual...what is odd though is that it was a cremation...which isn't usual.
One God - enough for me
