Cricket World Cup
« on: March 24, 2011, 17:52:29 »
Well, now that the proper stuff has started, I see that the Aussies have joined the Windies in being defeated in the quarters.  Will England join them after Saturday's match against Sri Lanka - and which of New Zealand and S. Africa will complete the quartet of disappointment?

Who are you expecting to win the tournie?

YAWN, MEGA YAWN! I just can't see why people get excited about cricket, I think watching paint dry is more exciting! ::)

My Dad was a HUGE cricket fan up until he died.

Well the bad news (for Andy - good news for tranchibabe!) is that we are now well & truly out of it...

Why bad news for me, Andrew?  It was clear back last summer that we weren't really up to scratch; our performance in Australia following the Ashes simply confirmed that.

ok semifinals looming

indiavpakistan   and    srilankavnzee

who is gonna win the compo?

does anyone have any admired favorites?

india - perpetual underachievers
pakistan - how much disruption can one cricket team take with clouds still hanging in the air and an apparently bottmless catchment of promising young talent
sri lanka - unpredictable  going through transition as some of my fav players.... jayasurayah that time at lords class knock masterclass in lefthanded batting wow! that's how to play cricket murali finally reaching that time of day sadly
nzee - they will give it theri best shot impressive in the field and may be able to spring a surprise or two cos they has amazing application and for them it really is team sport

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,

Only that you seem to be very interested in it and I assumed (since you have said so quite often!) that you support the English team - or is that only as far as Rugby is concerned? - and the English team being knocked out would result in less coverage (hopefully!)

farbeitformeto answer for AndyHB... but seems everyone's interest here seems to have waned with the demise about I~nngland which is a shame given the title of this thread was Cricket World Cup... one expects an internationalist perspective much like ... well i do like that the cricketing commentators many of whom have played the game to a significatn level are pretty happy to watch and admire and decry performances from all participants.....

me i didn't see very much cricket but i certainly was looking out for the progress of the game today... and i believe that ~India won that there was some bizarre controversy over the coin toss????!!!  both teams selected relatively one new player to play in the final without much experience of the compo!!!!
both Tendulkar and Murali had damp squib swansongs but there were some amazing batting performances from Jayawardena  103, Gambhir  90something and Dhoni 90something off of 79 balls and the final was pretty competitive as were both semifinals in theri own right... plenty of cricket in fact!

well done to both teams a final that ensured that one of the host teams would win the competition for the first time!

India won  commiserations to Sri Lanka

and to everyone else including Canada Kenya and Inngland of course!

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,
