Grand-parental rights
« on: March 31, 2011, 08:27:43 »
There seems to be a move to ensure that grandparents gain right of access to grand-children in cases of divorce, if an item on this morning's BBC Breakfst show is to be believed.

With at least some of us here being grandparents, I wondered what folk thought of the idea.  I suppose I can see a value in cases where there is a possibility that the parent in 'possession' of the children could move to another country - putting one more stumbling block to such a move - but where does it leave grandparents whose grandchildren aren't involved in a divorce - yet have been banned from access by their own children, for whatever reason?
Growing old is compulsory. Growing up is optional.

Have you visited the Garw Valley Railway yet?

As I am a Granny to five obviously I think, on the face of it, the idea is good. However, it is fraught with problems, especially as you say Andy, if they are the parents of a spouse who is banned from seeing their children.

It seems a move in the right direction to me - regardless of whether it results in an inconsistency - that is something that can be worked on at a later date!
