Leadership of the IMF
« on: May 22, 2011, 19:08:55 »
Even before Dominique Strauss-Kahn blotted his copybook in New York, the role of director of the IMF was under discussion as DS-K's tenancy was due to end - not least as he was looking to stand for the Presidency in France.  An early name to be put forward was that of our own Gordon Brown.  'Traditionally', the directorship of the IMF and the World Bank has been div'ed up between europe and the US respectively.  David Cameron is reported to have suggested that those involved in the decision should look beyond Europe now, whereas George Osbourne is suggesting the current French economy minister - Christine Lagarde.

I believe that this would be a first in itself, but is it time we went beyond the US and Europe, perhaps even beyond the other traditional Western nations for such positions?

Well Christine Lagarde got the job. I believe Gordon Brown had hopes in that direction!

i guess that settles it then...

i don't know much about the IMF seems to be a place that peddles on the poor

dunno that the west has got a particularly good record with banks so would be seriously surprised if the east would do much better

GOD BLESS!

Peddles on the poor, yup good assessment there ecu, Max Keiser on RT goes further, when he calls them the slave machine.

I once read a report about a Filipino entrepreneur who went to the government for help in manufacturing a product he had invented, he wanted to build a factory to help the poor, he was told under the conditions of the IMF loans the Philippines can not manufacture anything for export.
My brother, who lives in the Philippines confirmed this to me, when I suggested he import cheep goods made in the Philippines to the UK.
they don't make anything in the Philippines, he said!

IMF is one sick orgaisation IMO...GB would never have had a chance as he needed the UK Govt's support to get the post & Cameron would not have played ball...
