Family can be good for this, but it depends on the family and the individual circumstances - i e what you need 'counseling' about. I don't know if you listen to Desert Island discs on R4, but the guy who used to play the black paramedic a couple of years back was on recently, and said this topic had come up when he was visiting family in Africa and one of his relations said 'you mean they pay people to listen to them? Don't they have aunties?' - which is a fair reaction if A) there IS a wise aunt somewhere you can trust and B) the problem is one you can share with the family. As Eli says, sometimes they are just too close and you don't want them knowing all the details...
