Syria
« on: May 13, 2011, 19:52:38 »
i am kindov intrigued that we all get terribly excitable and all holier than thou about Libya but strangely silent about Syria... is it simply cos gaddaffi is earning his stripes as bogey man of the year while Assad... or is it simply cos well Obama is quiet and we er like Obama or is it the US that we like so much.... and thus cheer for?

hmmm

love to hear folks views on this companion news item of the moment

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,

More likely a question of oil. Libya has it. Syria doesn't. Also the faction which is against the govt in Syria is likely to contain a large chunk of Fatah support and we all know that that orgainsation is entirely composed of terrorists don't we??? :-S

Thanks to a document leaked to wikileaks we now know that the US have been supporting the opposition party in Syria since 2005.

May also have something to do with the fact that there aren't large numbers of British citizens working in Syria - not only the oil business but also English teaching.  The British Council, alone, has a sizeable number of Brits working as teachers in various Libyan universities and companies in Libya.  Not sure that we're 'flavour of the month' (or even decade) in Syria.

Also, you are probably too busy watching and reading UK-targetted media, ecu.  Try BBC World: you'll get a very different picture.

I no longer listen or watch to the BBC for news, Euronews is ok for the headlines, RT have good documentaries and Al Jazeera is best for international news.

That's interesting, Mike.  People I have worked with abroad wouldn't touch Al Jazeera because of its heavy bias.  Most still regard the BBC World (Service) to be the least biased, and trustworthy.  Whilst I watch/listen to some domestic BBC material, I tend to add to it with friends' input.
