Who knows what has happened between William and Kate pre-marriage - and who really(!) cares? IMO, that's THEIR business! Yes, when he's King (and I'm thinking it's a when not an if! Am also hoping it skips Charles but that's another topic!!) he'll be the Head of the Church of England, but he WON'T just be King of England - and that's what I think a lot of people forget! It's not a case of "Inngland and all the rest"! That kind of statement might be made in jest but is actually quite offensive - particuarly when so many English people DO talk about the "Queen of England" - Michael McIntyre has been saying it again and again during his BGT judge stint!!!! The  Head of CofE is a "name only" kind of title - therefore, IMO, way down the list of priorities from the duties of the Monarch.

I think today has been a great day for Britain! Yes, it's brought in lots of tourism revenue and will continue to do so....we don't really have any street parties around here but many shops with bunting and streets very very quiet earlier today!!
I also think William and Catherine(!) will be great ambassadors for our Nation (William already is!) and I don't see any problem with his "persona and public" image for the role of Monarch!

so he's a man of the people perhaps....   or at least seen as such ....he has the complexion for that... why do we need to have a royal as ambassador i mean what sort of nation are we if ordinary folk aren't appropriate? what are ordinary folks for in a nation such as ours? but hey ...

it was kwiet in Glasgow cos i was interested to hear on the radio or somewhere that of all the cities of the UK Glasgow was apparently the only one where no-one asked for license to have a street party...  for some reason!!?? me wouldn't know ....maybe if it was something to do with Princess Anne might be different?

..... as for head of the Cof E i guess i ask is it healthy to have someone who's living of live in the relational sense is more akin to the way folks lives theri lives generally outside of religious circles ... me i was just wondering if religious folks what do love a wedding it has to be said forgot to tut or all is forgotten and forgiven er.. and all that... anything that presents a seismic shift in the minds of religious folks has to be a good thing.... i wonder how the catholics enjoyed todya

GOD BLESS!

Peace and Love,

Well, there was at least one cardinal at the wedding itself. I assume Catholics were as happy as non-Catholics.

The street party issue is a bit of a red fish.  You only really needed to apply to have one if you needed to shut off the road ( in case of emergency access).  Josh went to a party with a whole cul-de-sac filling the road.  They never applied for a permit because there was no need.  People opposite me had a party, but it was all in their huge garden

Peace and Love,

It was QUIET in Glasgow coz folk were inside watching it! Actually I've never known a "street party" to happen around here...for ANY event - even way back.....it seems to be a more English tradition - think there were 12 applications to local authorities north of the border....so not exactly a Scottish thing to do.  But that doesn't mean that there was no interest, quite the opposite!
And the only thing I can think of with regards to your reference to Princess Anne is the Scottish Rugby connection - other than that, there's more likely to be LESS interest in things involving Anne!! We're NOT actually that parochial up here - contrary to what you seem to think....

And tbh, I've no idea what your last paragraph was trying to say/ask! All I can say is that saw many religious leaders represented at the Abbey! Even a Rabbi!!

There were quite a few street parties down here, mostly consisting of a large bouncy castle for the kids, beer barbie for the blokes and a large TV screen for the women. ;)
This video on the guardian site is quite amusing, us Brits are a strange lot.

well thankfully someone was watching! chatted today to someone who too had noticed the toryblue scourge out in force at the wedding..

according to the bbc 28 million folks watched .... which makes me breathe a sigh of relief cos that makes more that did not!  listening to the radio vox pops etc one could be forgiven for thinking only about 3 folks were not interested

i have to say i think the peeps here in inngland and beyond are all insane! and easily manipulated by a bit of fairy tale stage management ... apparently no-one does the pagent quite like the innglish something to make folks proud to be british .... i guess gadaffi or stalin has had his moments of similar sentiment

GOD BLESS!

I think there were a few  small street parties in the cul de sacs of our estate (its a bit like a 'rabbit warren' where we live  {: )

We had stuff in ready for a little BBQ - which is probably what many neighbours were doing.
'Amor Vincit Omnia' ?
