Generally, I think bad times help us to appreciate the good times MORE, but I don't think they're an essential requirement to appreciating them.

I think you can certainly love without hating, but whether you can appreciate as fully the good things in life if yo have not experienced hardship is I think a different mater. I suspect that the answer is no, but no-one will ever know! (even if you were in the position of Job of having had everything then nothing then had it all returned, because you don't know for certain how you would have developed if it had not all been taken away.)

Tangnefedd, like you Ecu, I rather wonder whether your response would actually be the same if it actually happened... but then you do come across as a very determined woman with a powerful self-confdence...
