Ten Thoughts To Live By
« on: June 09, 2011, 16:06:13 »
I know its probably been shared before but sometimes we might need a reminder  :)

1. Thou shalt not worry, for worry is the most unproductive of all human activities.

2. Thou shalt not be fearful, for most of the things we fear never come to pass.

3. Thou shalt not cross bridges before you come to them, for no one yet has succeeded in accomplishing this.

4. Thou shalt face each problem as it comes. You can only handle one at a time anyway.

5. Thou shalt not take problems to bed with you, for they make very poor bedfellows.

6. Thou shalt not borrow other people's problems. They can better care for them than you can.

7. Thou shalt not try to relive yesterday for good or ill, for it is forever gone. Concentrate on what is happening in your life and be happy now!

8. Thou shalt be a good listener, for only when you listen do you hear different ideas from your own. It is hard to learn something new when you are talking, and some people do know more than you do.

9. Thou shalt not become bogged down by frustration, for ninety percent of it is rooted in self-pity and will only interfere with positive action.

10. Thou shalt count thy blessings, never overlooking the small ones, for a lot of small blessings add up to a big one!

I think they are all very useful and good.  Especially No. 6.  That should be a mantra for a support worker.
It's acceptance innit?

Jan...
Ecu 'What do you mean?'
Jan 'what do YOU mean?' ......
All I can say is that these are ten rules I certainly TRY to live by - though I do have problems with one or two of them - and with one o two people because there are only a couple of them that I DO have problems with!
(Said people are very close to me and have no ability to understand that someone could possibly actually DO this - they are born worriers!

I guess it is whatever helps each of us. I found a chakra meditation helpful for me, hubby listens to one by Paul McKenna which helps him.

Went abseiling/rock-climbing with a group of 14+ kids from church yesterday and, having never done this kind of thing before, some of them were terrified!!  We spent some time with one particular lass who is usually the 'soul of the party', getting her to realise that there is nothing wrong with fear, provided it is based on respect - for the rock face and what it could do to one if you were stupid, and that she could overcome her 'worry' fears.  In the end, and very gingerly, she did.  She was in tears b the end of the abseil, but I think these were combined tears of relief, exhilaration and sheer panic!!
