Indeed andy, the original Irish were from Scotland I believe!  It was invaded by the command of the Pope at that time.
It is odd when we look at statements like the one above, where they want the UK out of Ireland.....the UK is Britain and Ireland together, so Ireland needs to get out of Ireland!  I think when there has been a mixing of people for hundreds of years it's hard to say they are from another place.  If we looked at this in a British context it's like telling an asian family who have been here for 80 years to go home.  They are home!
