i only saw the last 1/2 hour of normal time + all the extra time but left before the pens..... thinking idly well the US have the best goal keeper in the world (or so the commentators keep saying) ... apparently the more beef..... mind you my favourite player of what i saw Mayiama(?) 8.... apparently plays for the same team in the US and she's pretty shrewd AND accurate!
well after Japan had completely dominated possession in what i had previously seen this side in the final looked weiry a bit rabbit in headlights and hardly playing with the composure and accuracy of Barcelona.. while US were quite on the rampage playing much better than i had briefly seen against france.... retaining the ball winning the ball closing down tirelessly and effectively and only just falling short of what looked like a confident and intelligent rout of the opposition ...so the final result is a bit of a surprise... but that's sport for you... in 25 previous meetings Japan had lost 22 and never won a contest...
well done all the players for never giving up ...on both sides... well done both coaches especially the Japan coach who kept his nerve when he could have capitualated along with a tiring team.. (well we've all seen it)
and well done Hope Solo (US goalie .... best in the world remember?) for her post game comments
i was not entirely keen on the refereeing display but hey...
a whole 4 years to wait for the next Wcup... and yet more surprises...... shucks!
