ecu, I think the term 'underclass' gives away the point.  I'm not sure that the working class actually fit into this group, as the 'underclass' are almost always those who don't work, either by choice or because the habit of work has been lost through generational unemployment.  I find that Polly sometimes makes such ridiculous claims, almost as if she has made no attempt to research what she writes, whilst at other times, what she writes is worth further study.

Interestingly, I believe that the term chav was coined by the very same working class that Polly is trying to bolster - suggesting that they are a different 'class' to the working class.
Growing old is compulsory. Growing up is optional.
