We have had immigration (though not always known by that name) for centuries.  If the indigenous population (or more indigenous than the more recent arrivals) were willing to work in all the hand-dirtying jobs rather than regarding itself as 'above all that', employers in both public and private sectors wouldn't have to bring people in from abroad (seasonal vegetable pickers is a good example) to fill the places!!

The current/longstanding debate on immigration is so simplistic as to be totally pointless as it ignores vast amounts of information.
Growing old is compulsory. Growing up is optional.
